How do I update my subscription payment method?
Updated
You can update your subscription payment method by signing in to the Samsung Account tied to your subscription. Then, go to My Subscriptions, select “View Details” on the subscription you want to change, and update your payment information as needed.
If you’re adding a new payment method, it’ll only apply to future subscription orders. If a subscription installment has already been processed, like your next water filter refill being charged or shipped, the payment method for that order can’t be changed.
Steps to Update Your Subscription Payment Method
Sign in to My Subscriptions using the Samsung Account you used to place the subscription order. If you have more than one Samsung Account, be sure to use the one that receives subscription confirmation emails.
Find the subscription you want to change in your list of active subscriptions.
Select “View Details.”
Select “Update Payment Details” to edit or change your payment method.
Enter your new payment information. Be sure the billing address matches the address your bank or card issuer has on file.
Save your changes. You’ll see your updated payment method on the subscription details page and it’ll be used for your next scheduled order for that subscription.
Two related things to note:
You’ll need to repeat these steps for each active subscription you have.
Updating a subscription’s payment method doesn’t change that payment method if it’s saved to your Samsung Account for future purchases.
Example: You change the expiration date on a credit card used for a subscription. If you have that payment method saved in your Samsung Account for making purchases, you’ll need to change the expiration date there, too.
When Payment Method Changes Take Effect
Your new or updated payment method is used starting with your next scheduled subscription order.
A payment method can’t be changed on an installment that’s already been processed. Once Samsung has charged your card for a scheduled shipment, like a water filter refill or a monthly Samsung Care+ plan, that specific charge is final. It can’t be moved to a different card. This is true even if the order hasn’t shipped yet.
To make sure a new payment method is used for your subscription’s next installment, update it before the next billing date. Your next billing date is shown on the subscription details page in My Subscriptions, next to “Subscription renewal date.” Updating at least 3 days ahead of that date is recommended.
If a scheduled installment has already been charged to a card you no longer want to use, here are your options:
Let the order complete and update the payment method so the change applies to future installments.
Cancel the order if it’s still within the cancellation window, then place it again after updating your payment method. See How do I change, modify or cancel my order? for details.
Non-Subscription Payment Method Changes
If the item doesn’t appear in My Subscriptions, it isn’t a subscription.
Payment methods can’t be changed for non-subscription orders. See How do I change my payment method for a non-subscription order? for more information and options.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why was my subscription payment declined?
A recurring charge is most often declined for one of these reasons:
The card expired, was canceled, or was reissued with a new number.
Insufficient funds were available at the time of the charge.
The billing address on file doesn’t match the address your bank has on record.
Your bank flagged the recurring charge as suspicious and blocked it.
The card doesn’t support recurring or automatic payments.
First, update your payment method in My Subscriptions. If the card details are correct and the charge still fails, contact your bank or card issuer about the transaction and whether or not they declined it before contacting Samsung’s Order Support team.
I updated my payment method but my old card was still charged.
It’s likely the installment had already been processed before the update was saved. A payment method can’t be changed on an order that’s already processing or charged. The updated payment method will be used for the next installment and future installments.
My subscription was canceled because of a failed payment.
Samsung makes 4 attempts to retry a failed charge before canceling a subscription. Attempts are made over a 15-day period and you’ll receive an email after each one.
To reactivate a canceled subscription, check My Subscriptions.
Why don’t I see the subscription in my Samsung Account?
Make sure you’re signed in to the Samsung Account tied to the subscription. Subscriptions appear only under the account used to create them. Check the email address on your subscription confirmation email and sign in with that account.
Can I pause, skip, or cancel my subscription instead?
Pause: No
Skip: No
Cancel: Yes. Find the subscription in My Subscriptions and select “Cancel Subscription.”
Can I change the payment method on a subscription order that already shipped?
No. Once an installment has been processed, its payment method can’t be changed. You can only change the payment method on future installments.
Will updating my payment method change the date my subscription bills?
No. Your billing schedule stays the same.
Do I need to cancel and restart my subscription to change the card used?
No. Updating the payment method in My Subscriptions keeps everything else (your subscription, schedule, pricing) intact.
Does updating my subscription payment method change the card saved to my Samsung Account?
No. Subscription payment methods are managed per subscription. Changes made to one subscription’s payment method aren’t made to other subscriptions you have, and aren’t made to saved payment methods either.
Can you change the payment method for me?
No. Payment information can only be entered by you, through your account, for security reasons. Samsung’s Order Support team can’t take or enter card details on your behalf, and can’t change the payment method on an order.
