How do I trade my device in?

For information on carrier trade-in (Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T), read this article instead.

Important: Before trading in your phone, make sure to remove all personal information and accounts, and perform a factory reset. This will help Samsung to process your return even faster. You can find instructions and short videos on how to do this on Samsung’s Device Trade-In FAQ page.

Keep in mind that you have 15 days, starting on the day that the email with your shipping label attached is sent to you, to send your trade-in device to Samsung. Trade-in shipping labels are typically generated 2 days after your new device ships and can be accessed through the My Orders page or through Order Search. A printed trade-in label will also be included in the box containing your order.

How to Initiate a Trade-in Transaction

  1. Choose a new device
Select your new device and the product you want to trade in. You will immediately see your instant trade-in credit.

  2. Eligibility Check
Ensure your trade-in device meets our eligibility requirements.

  3. Prepare your device for trade-in
Before you send your trade-in device, please remove all personal information and save all data you want to keep in a different storage location, then remove security locks by performing a factory reset. Before resetting your device, ensure that you log out of your Samsung, Google, and iCloud storage accounts. To ensure your trade-in is successful, please make sure all software locks and personal data is removed from your device.

  4. Pack your trade-in
Once your new product arrives, safely package your trade-in device in a box—we recommend the box your new device came in. Wrap the device with plenty of packing material such as recycled or reused paper, bubble wrap, or foam.

  5. Place the device in the center of the shipping box
Place the device in the center of the shipping box. Cushion the device on all sides to prevent shifting that could damage the device in transit. Remove and place the lower half of the shipping label, which was provided in the box that your order arrived in or via email, inside the box to ensure your order is processed correctly.

  6. Seal the box
Use clear packing tape to seal all open edges on the shipping box.

  7. Attach your shipping label
Your shipping label is included in the box that your order arrived in, but it is also attached to your trade-in welcome email if you need to print it out. Please tape all four sides of the label with clear packing tape to the outside of the box. Remember to remove or cover any old shipping labels. If you do not have a printer, the FedEx Ship Center can print the label for you.

  8. Drop the box at a FedEx Ship Center
Please take the package to a FedEx Ship Center and hand it to a representative. Do not drop the package in a FedEx box because we will not be able to confirm your shipment.

If you cannot send your package using FedEx, you can use an alternative shipment service but you must include the bottom half of the shipping label inside the package to help us track your order:

  9. If your trade-in is declined, Samsung will return your device upon request.

What if I am picking up my new device at Best Buy or a Samsung Experience Store? Can I bring my trade-in there?

Devices that are supposed to be traded in as part of a Samsung.com transaction, and were not part of a Best Buy or Samsung Experience Store pick-up order, cannot be traded in at a Best Buy/Samsung Experience Store. All trade-ins that are part of a Samsung.com direct transaction must be sent to Samsung directly.
